What future for design? What design for the future? In the context of contemporary ecological, social, political and technological new realities, what role can and should design play, and what aspects of its own practices should it question?
Co-edited with Réjean Legault, Quel futur pour le design ? Quel design pour le futur ? Manifestes et propositions (not translated) brings together designers, researchers and architects from different disciplines and contexts to reflect on the responsibilities, contradictions and possible futures of design.
Combining critical manifestos with concrete proposals and situated experiments, the book examines how design both responds to and participates in contemporary transformations. Contributions span graphic, interaction, fashion, product and architectural design, addressing questions of materiality, technology, ecology, participation and collective practices.
Rather than proposing a single vision for the future of design, the publication brings different, sometimes conflicting perspectives into dialogue, questioning not only what design might become, but also what it should challenge within its own methods, assumptions and ambitions.
The book takes its title from a question originally formulated by Emanuele Quinz, whose preface places this inquiry within a broader historical and critical perspective.
